Nail Color of the Week: Revlon 'Mint Gelato"

This aqua nail polish gives off a "shellac" manicure look. It takes about three coats to get the above effect with top coat and will last you for a week with no chipping. Now, is it really scented? Yes ma’am! I did my nails on Monday and it still smells minty (I find this weird as well).

Will I wear this again? Definitely!

Review: MAC "Double Dare" Cremesheen Glass

For me, lip gloss is usually a hit or miss. Some come out too sticky and others either smell or taste horrible. I was shopping at MAC one day for my normal Studio Fix foundation and decided to take a look at their lip glosses. I explained to the artist that I wanted something to make my lips appear pinker (they're a bit darker) and she recommended this Cremesheen Glass in "Double Dare."

The Cremesheen line is more on the opaque side but does go on sheer if you wear a little bit. I actually love this color so much that I'm already on my second tube. Two dabs of this on top of matte lipstick make all the difference. If this is too much for you, try their Tinted Lipglass. It's cheaper and comes in more colors.

You can view the Cremesheen line here or the Tinted Lipglass line here.

E!'s New Reality Show, Botched

Image: monstersandcrtics.com

The reality show addict in me is a big fan of transformation shows like Restaurant Impossible, Extreme Weight Loss, How Do I Look, etc. So it was no surprise that this new one on E! caught my attention.

The whole premise of the show is to help correct plastic surgery gone wrong. Many of the individuals received horrible nose jobs, butt lifts, breast implants, etc. Many of whom say they went to well-known board-certified surgeons. I find this to be a bit unsettling because in the grand scheme of things, who can you really trust?

The surgeons working the scalpels are Dr. Paul Nassif and Dr. Terry Dubrow (some may remember Nassif as the former husband to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Adrienne Maloof). Now, one thing that stands out is they don't just accept any patient. The surgery can't be risky and you can't have any existing psychological disorders, like the woman on last night’s episode. She wants to correct a butt implant surgery but suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder .The doctors said they won't operate on her until she seeks help, which I think is great. Also, it's not just narcissistic patients but people like the woman on last night’s episode who wanted to correct her broken nose after having 4 unsuccessful surgeries.

The show is a little on the graphic side so if you can stomach it, catch all new episodes on Tuesday nights at 9/8c on E!.

My Hair Journey

I remember being young and having a full head of hair. When I was in my teens, people would always come up to me and say, "When you were a little girl, your hair was sooo long and thick, it would take two people to comb it." And for that reason, my mother decided to perm my hair when I was about 11 years old. It was too difficult for her to manage and figured perming it wouldn't be so bad. Boy was she wrong. Within the next couple of months my hair started to break off. I started getting my hair braided and then as I got older I discovered weaves. When I discovered it, it was like a whole new world to me. Straight or curly? 1b or 2? Bang or no bang? The options were endless. So, throughout high school, I experimented with that. Getting it done every 6 weeks and touching up my edges to make sure everything blended right. My hair stayed like this until my junior year in college. I can recall talking to my friend one day and she was going on and on about how she's natural. She kept saying that her hair is so much stronger without the perm. So I began to research natural hair to see what the hype was about. That's when I realized having hair free of chemicals is a beautiful thing. You don't have to worry about it breaking off when you perm it, putting a flat iron on it every day to make sure it blends with the weave or worry about getting out of the salon in at least eight hours. Setting a level of freedom that shows you are no longer bonded to what people "say" is good. After this realization, I began my journey to becoming natural in December 2008 and I haven't looked back since!

Nail Color of the Week - OPI "I Just Can't Cope-acabana"

I went to the nail salon over the weekend and FINALLY got my hands on a good yellow nail polish. I've tried so many variations of this color that turned out sheer, no matter how many coats I put on. This one was opaque with just two coats. So far, this polish is holding up really well. I just have a little chip on my middle finger, but that's it.

Would I buy this? Definitely!

BET Awards 2014 Recap

I usually don't watch the BET Awards, but decided, what the hell. Kandi's Wedding was on hiatus until next weekend so my 8pm time slot was open. First of all, I have to say, what a show! It definitely had some ups and downs, but overall, was an ok show. Let's recap a few of those moments:

The Host

Chris Rock - Honestly, his jokes were not that funny to me. I mean he had a few punch lines here and there, especially when he said Paris Hilton was getting her Kim Kardashian on for the night, but overall, it was a hot mess. He was probably nervous or something.

Keke Palmer - Her dress was confirmation that she is no longer True Jackson VP. It was an interesting Alon Livne number with cut outs on the sides of her hips and down her bust. But anyway, she was the host for the social media tracker. At one point, the tweets reached up to 8 million.

Busta Rhymes - Now, this man right here, was dressed as if it was 1990. He had on some colorful jacket that people compared to The Cheesecake Factory bag and Dance Dance Revolution. I mean, I credit Busta for doing him, but man, this Zebra Stripe Gum number won’t be laid to rest for a while.
Performances

Pharrel Williams - The show opened up with a school girl on roller skate type theme to, "Come Get It Bae." Half way through, our favorite female rapper, Missy Elliot, popped up with a remix/collaboration of "Pass That Dutch." It’s been quite a while since we’ve all seen Missy. Hopefully, she’s here to stay.

Nicki Minaj - Now, this performance was quite interesting. At first, the girl started rapping on the back of a motorcycle which then turned into an Alice in Wonderland set for "Pills and Potion." She came busting out of the top of a mushroom complete with a bunny rabbit (people on twitter were like, I bet you Drake is hiding up in there), a ballerina and a guitarist dressed like Mad Hatter. Kind of weird, but it works for her. Also, let's not forget her acceptance speech for her fifth BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist of the Year. She was throwing a good amount of shade to some other rapper (people are saying Iggy Azalea), stating she is a true artist who writes all her rhymes.

Usher - This was the best performance of the night, hands down (he did get a little bit of slack for coming out in this Cotton Eyed Joe raccoon hat). He did a compilation of hits from "You Remind Me" to "Confessions", all leading up to his latest single, "Good Kisser."

Lionel Richie - He was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Some of his greatest hits were performed by John Legend, Ledisi and Yolanda Adams. After accepting this award, he hopped on the piano and finished it off with "Easy Like Sunday Morning" and my all-time favorite, "All Night Long."

Shia LeBeouf, Escorted Out of Broadway Show

Image: huffingtonpost.com

I actually find this very weird. Out of all the days in the year, Shia LeBeouf gets into trouble before the day Transformers hits movie theaters! According to reports, he was at the Broadway musical Caberet being disorderly and yelling. They escorted him out during intermission and when NYPD showed up, he started threatening them! LeBeouf was booked overnight, charged with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass and released this morning. I wonder what triggered him to go off during the show? I'm sure we'll hear something soon!
